How the hell did I miss this thread??
 Oh, well. Anyway, before the tournament started I predicted Germany as champions. That can still happen, although Spain looks really strong. Germany has not played at their highest level and still gone to the final. Typical Germany. They (almost) always go very far. Lots of great football in this tournament. Espesially Holland and Russia played a couple of very good games each. Really nice to see that there are some americans (canadians too ) that like "soccer". I'd really like to see soccer becoming a big sport in America and have it's national team go far in The World Cup. They played some really nice football in 2002 when they reached the quarterfinals.Soccer needs America and America needs soccer!  Let's make it happen!

Our (American) Womens team does quite well. Olympic Gold medal winners, and although I can't recall how they did in the last world cup, I believe it was respectable.
We're fortunate in that many of these women players go to college here in Portland. The two goals scored to win the gold medal came from University of Portland players. So, our favorite game on a Friday night or Sunday afternoon is womens college soccer. I don't have a favorite team for the final this Sunday. I typically root for the underdog. I do like the way Spain plays though. tbone |

That was some final! Spain played with heart and played to win. Germany never seemed to show up. They looked as though they were more intent on physically hurting Spain than scoring. And for a while, it sure appeared the ref's were helping Germany accomplish that goal. Torres did not deserve a yellow card.
What a fun cup this has been for us American "soccer" fans to watch. tbone |

Germany deserved to lose for sure....Podolski's passes went straight to defenders every f***ing time!!! Lehmann and Schweinsteiger were the only players with life in them, they both played great! (How about that one-handed, flying-punch deflection save!!! OMG. Amazing!)
