Floyd Rose speedloader
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
watched a demo on the Floyd Rose speedloader bridge. Are the strings propriatry ? Kind of stupid if they don't let anyone else make strings for their bridge/tuning system. wonder if it is a passing fad. |

Floyd Rose supplies them...I think D'Addario might make some that are compatible as well...it's sorta like steinberger....the double ball end deals...similar concept.

The Floyd Guitar was offered to me years ago along with the right to make the strings. Floyd was an endorser at the time and since I passed he no longer used our stuff.
Gary Hanssers company has the rights to the Floyd Rose name and all that comes with it. before Gary got it Floyd made an exclusive deal with Dean Markely. Gary regularly begs both Jim D'Addario and I regularly to make them. There isnot enough demand yet for either of us to make them so they are still Dean Markely. |

Ah...that's right. I had a few friends that worked for Mr Jim and someone mentioned something about that....last time I toured the factory they were showing me a bunch of stuff and thought I saw some FR compatible strings, but they weren't just SB stock...
For what it's worth...making those guitars with headstocks sans tuning pegs to be just begging for or at the very least a lack of sustain due to the shortened string length and tension difference...there's nothing drawing over the nut, and for a niche product like that (speedloader and it's spawned guitar line) I'd guess that they're not doing themselves any favors with the cost of those...not to mention the string thing...I've seen some Korean or Chinese made ones at the local GC, but they look...well...lonely sitting in the corner...

I think the speedloader is an interesting idea. I'm not sure it's for me, but I like innovation. I had a F@nder calendar last year (a gift) and one month they had a picture of a prototype of theirs that used the FR speedloader system.
Really, I like the JP tremolo bridge and locking tuners so well that I get a little annoyed with my Floyd-equipped guitars sometimes... and I swear my JP stays in tune better.

I have...however I was referencing the floyd design...not to mention there are varying quality levels with SB's (and the FR guitars) and the SBs I've played, I never noticed a sustain for days type experience, tho' the transtrem is cool...

I fear the strings will be gone before the guitars are. At some time in the future the strings will not be made anymore and you can use the guitars as coffee table.
