Same here, I've got 2 basses that need Strap Locks and I don't really want to go buy two Schallers if like a week or two later I'm going to be replacing all of my locks with Ernie Ball.

I'm really interested to see how EBMM attacked the straplock problem. Shaller and Dunlop use completely different approaches, and at first I couldn't see a third way to do it, but I've since come up with one that would let you use the stock EBMM strap buttons.

Dunlops have a stud on the strap end that fits into a socket in a special strap button. The stud is held in place by a little ball bearing that protrudes out the side of the stud, which fits into a groove on the inside of the special strap button. It gets released by pressing a button on the the strap end...this releases tension on the ball bearing and lets the stud slip out of the socket.

Schallers also use a special strap button. The strap end of the system has a little cradle that this button lies in. It's secured by a spring-loaded pin that fits into the end of the special strap button.

I've used both. The Schallers are fail-safe, but the strap buttons can't be reliably used with plain straps (a plain strap will fit in the groove, but it's not all that secure). The Dunlop dual-use version has buttons that are very much like regular strap buttons, with a big head. For this reason I've gone with Dunlops.

So...what's the third way?

Imagine the strap end of the system having a cavity big enough to enclose the entire head of a stock EBMM strap button. At the lip of this cavity are two flat pieces of metal, oriented perpendicular to the strap button axis (i.e. the screw axis). These stick out to capture the head of the strap button, but they are spring-loaded so that they can retract into the edge of the cavity. They should be beveled, so that you can just press the lock onto the strap button and it'll snap in place.

These two pieces of metal would be connected to the two black release buttons we see on the renderings of the EBMM strap locks....press the release buttons and they retract, allowing you to pull the strap lock off.

The big advantage to this approach (if this is the way they did it) is that it will work with a stock EBMM strap button...no need to retrofit anything.

If the EBMM locks work this way I'll certainly switch. But if they're just a "me too" design that emulates the Dunlops, then I see no reason to jump ship.

So far EBMM has been coy about telling us anything...they've implied that the system uses the same screws, but that's about it.

Woodwind and Brasswind (Music 123) has them listed now, it doesn't say if they are in stock or not so I don't know if they actually have them yet.

I can't beleive this thread is still going... I started it in March!

I guess it's at least proved to Ernie Ball that there's an interest in their new strap locks!
