At least that's what they would have left the factory with ....

Yes, all of the JPs built from March 2008 on through now have been strung with 10's at the factory.

I was really into the TI Jazz Flats, but for some reason my StingRay 5 seemed lifeless when I strung them on it. After fighting with my tone on my Ray and my amp, I convinced myself to go back to the strings that my Ray was made to play......the Regular Slinkys. The second I finished putting them on and tuning it up, she became ALIVE!! I'm not kidding you, I thought I actually heard her say to me......."Thank you!!!! for bringing me back to life!!!"

I will never put anything on my Ray but Regular Slinkys.

Oh, by the way, after switching from the TI Jazz Flats back to the Regular Slinkys I thought I'd have to make some major adjustments to the saddles......not! She settled right in on the string height, (I always set that at the factory height of 3/32 inch at the 12th fret), and I only had to adjust the intonation on the E string very slightly back toward the bridge.

The Rays are the easiest basses to set up in the entire world. The wheel on the truss rod is a GREAT common sense invention.

That's why Rays are the greatest basses in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

I accept: the gauges the instruments are strung with at the factory, it does not preclude y'all trying other sets and gauges.

Strings on my 2008. Sterling 5 HS are ready for a change finally!

There are still original factory ones on the bass and according to my info from the beginning of this thread:

All Music Man 5-string basses are strung with #2836 Regular Slinky Bass strings (45-65-80-100-130)

That's for sure, right?

Now, I'm considering to put the same strings on, but I'm very suspicious that I'll never going to get the same tone when I change factory strings!

That's happen every time on my previous basses which I owned as the first owner!

Anyway, I'll try with recommended #2836 RSB strings, so we'll see!

P.S. ...are this Regular Slinky Bass strings nickel plated, or just stainless steel?

As someone who is here every day ... please accept this as the truth. The Regular Slinky Bass Strings (#2836) are the very same ones we use to string up the basses when they are set up here at the factory. Do not be afraid to restring with these strings - your bass will sound like it did when it was new.

And yes, they are nickel-plated steel.

Cheers,

Dan

Thanks a lot, Dan!

You have make my day!

P.S. ...I also considering those new Coated EB Bass strings, but I must check at my local dealer if they have ones, 'cause we are far away from the factory. Of course if price is to high for coated set, I'll take this regulars for sure!

Anyway, I checked about Coated Bass strings here, on this site in product list, and listen to those audio clips, really sounds great, and I must recognized the way how it sounds "smell" to me on Ed Friedland!
(I'm pretty sure that he played those clips)

Thanks again, You are very kind!
This store owns a good friend of mine, I'll give him a call!

P.S. ...in one of TMS music stores I bought my Sterling, just through account of another music store that owns my another friend (avoiding some taxes etc.), You see I'm a vet-musician in my hometown and all musicians and gear store owners, well, we know each other, we are small community ...etc.

That's very cool! My daughter visited Croatia a few years ago, she said it was a beautiful country. Sounds like a great place to live too!

By the way, I have tried the coateds and I think they are great. Now I won't have to change my strings as often ....

Well, I called my local dealer and yes, they have coated set for my bass, it cost 28% more than regular slinkys, so I'll take for a first change those regulars, but for sure will try coated set in the future!

P.S. ...my friend also said that they have in store one brand new 25th H model, so I can't wait to go there and try it, in fact I'm interested for HSS model, but for the first look, this H will be fine! (they don't even have price for it yet)
