e string unwinding itself

HI,

Im running 10 gauge slinky's on my LTD eclipse for months.
I noticed slipping on my lower e string while on 2 fret bend (15th-17th)the other day. It looks like the string is unwinding at the bridge end (where its wrapped around the circular end stop, and then gets wrapped around itself a few times). The wrappings unravelled and the string slipped about 10mm.
My guitar has locking machine heads, so theres no strecthing at the nut end.
I changed the strings for a new set of same green slinky's and the same thing happened the following day.
Its at standard tuning (EADGBe).
Anyone notice similar slips? what strings wud u recommend for locking system guitars?

If you have an eclipse with the lespaul type bridge , it sounds like the bridge saddle is cutting the string.

I wud say the strings you using at the moment should fare darn well for you.

Maybe you should try the RPS-Slinkys.

The guitar is an EC-1000, which is cool.
The saddle isnt cutting the string, the point where it had been resting (little kink) moved forward when i re-tensioned the string.....i could see the little kink about 10mm ahead of saddle point. So that meant the slack was coming from the bridge end of the string cos its locked at the other end.
The string seems to hit an elastic limit and starts to unwind because of the force.
Maybe its 2 dodgy batches of strings, or maybe i need to use something else cos of locking machine heads and tone-pro bridge.
I thought maybe other people running locking systems came across similar probs.
I try some other strings and see how it goes....
cheers

Only happened a handfull of times on my end....

There is a fine line between under-tightening a locking saddle and overtightening.

As unlikely as it sounds, over-compresion of the string by the locking nut can cause a slip and undertightening is pretty obvious. Over tightening can also mushroom the top of the locking screw - you can't see it, but it means pressure isn't applied evenly and sometimes not enough of it - if you have really been cranking it tight you may want to check this...

Also ensure the saddle is clear & clean, free of gunk... with something as thin as a low e, it doesn't take much to impair the locking ability.

The rest should be straight forward, make sure the string is centre and as deep as practical before locking... prior to full lock tuning i give it a masive bar and bend work out, if it doesn't snap or slip in the first epically abusive instance you should be right. Ps. all the top techs do this... do be afraid to really strech it in prior to locking.. Any dramas.. give it another post.

I would recommend using RPS... but that wont help your problem since its the low E... RPS only reinforces the high strings.

Thanks for advice guys...much appreciated.
First off, my EC-1000 is a fixed bridge system, not fyl-rose and the string doesnt lock at the bridge end. It locks at the machine head. That said i will bend the fuk out of some strings and see what happens. thanks DrGonzo5150...good advice
The string in the high (.10) E string (thinnest string) and it only seems to do this when tuned to a standard E.
I have been messing around half a step down and all is well, bend all you like and no unwinding.
Tuned back up to standard E for some LOG tunes and it started to unwind again.
It is definitely unwinding itself at the bridge end, i watched it do it last night!.
I have ordered some RPS strings that will be with me next week.
RPS re-inforce the high (thinnest) strings yeah? So happy days!
Hope the new RPS strings work. Im going to check and clean the whole bridge tonight.
thanks to everyone who posted, let u know how it goes.

Got the RPS gauge 10 slinkys 2 days ago and re-strung my EC. you can see theres more of a secure winding down at the bridge end of the string in comparison to the standard slinky's, nice gold finish on that part of the string too (looks kinda sexy coming thru black bridge). Its been tuned up to standard Eadgbe tuning since RPS strings went on and there has been NO string slipping or unwinding, so i think the problem is solved. I did some bending on the high e string to test it and it has'nt budged. So happy days I can now play in E tuning again without that string crapping itself.
