String broke after 4 days of use: why?
Hey, I'm new to the forum, a new EB string user, and a relatively new guitar player. I've only been playing for about 5 or 6 months now, so bear with me here as this is my first time doing this.
I purchased two packs of super slinkys at a GC on monday. I carefully strung all 6 band new strings on my super cheap guitar. (the guitar was a stratocaster imitation that came from one of those really cheap start up kits with all the things you need to start playing in it. it's from some total off brand, but surprisingly, the tone on the guitar itself was pretty decent. everything else was junky, including the tone of the strings on it.) However, the strings that were on the guitar when it came out of the packaging had lasted me 5 months. Eventually i decided to get some quality strings, namely Ernie Ball super slinkys. After i strung them on, i fell in love with the tone. it was great. but, today, after a meer 4 days of use, the D string broke. I had been extremely meticulous, making sure my hands were clean before every use, and wiping the strings down with a cotton cleaning cloth after every use. i play in my basement which is about a 68 degree or so area with a pretty normal humidity level. Another not of interest, it didnt really break, it kind of un-raveled in the bridge saddle where the string sits. this is the same thing that happened with the Original D string that came on the guitar from the box. my question: why did the string break after just 4 days? bad luck? |

SOrry to say this but bad bridge there is a burr or something that is causing the string to come apart at the saddle....

Without seeing the guitar I cant tell you but take it to a quality repair shop and they should be able to file away the obstacle
