Hi all,
got a bit of a strange off the topic sort of question. Been playing guitar for over 10 years and never had any troubles, but then 12 months ago my hands started to get CHRONIC Eczema, to the point where my hands would blister, split and bleed...And its only on my hands so the only thing i can put it down to is possible my guitar. Fender Tele US Standard left maple fret board. Did some research about a test that Im getting done to sort out what the problem is, and I noticed that Nickel Allergies are extremely common through out the entire globe. They then said it can affect the skin straight away or it could take years to react. So im hoping that it isnt the Nickel in the strings. I have noticed that Ernie has now got Coated Titanium strings and Stainless Steel strings....i guess my main question is...are the Coated Titanium strings still Nickel wound, but Titanium coated? or are they full titanium? and so forth for the Stainless steel strings...id be amazed to see if this is what is causing the most annoying hand eczema in the world!! Anyways, thanks for reading and thanks in advance if you reply. If anyone's heard this before or knows of anyone who's had a similar problem it'd be good to hear what the outcome was... Cheers |

Hopefully you've come to the realization that it is because you've been practicing too much.
LOL Other than that - I've never heard of any string related conditions like that??? And, please don't let it be the "nickel"!!!! ![]() #2253's - never another!! |

G'day.. Welcom to the forum.
I actually couldn't find the thread i was looking for... But these two sort of touch on it: hypo-allergentic strings? How much Nickel is in each type of Ernie Ball guitar strings? Long story short, RPS titanium reinforced are only strengthened at the ball end where they are prone to breakage... so you would get no relief there. As per the above threads, you will be fine with certain types and brands of stainless strings. Customer service should be able to advise on any nickel content within the EB stainless range... as i'm not 100% Once again. Welcome ![]() Hope you stick around.

hey there, thanks for these replies. much appreciated. ive spoken to a few wholesalers here and they are unsure if any nickel is used in the stainless or titanium strings. Ill definately check out those links though.
Im getting tests done next week so they can figure out what im reacting to. In a way im hoping its just the nickel coz at least then i still have an option to get maybe stainless steel. but hopefully what ever it is i hope i can stil play guitar...if they say its the guitar full stop, then i guess the only thing us muso's would do is ignore them and keep on playing haha no matter how much it hurts.. thanks again |
