I've had the coated strings (45-130) on Heinz for a couple days, and here are the impressions:
Apart from a slightly different sheen and a slight sense of unstickyness (they feel a little different to the touch, but it's only really noticeable when "fondling" the bass), they feel just like normal strings. They sound like normal strings too, which is a good thing.

Now if they just last they'll be a big hit I'm sure.

I've got a set on my red Bongo. I'm not a roundwound guy, but these are pretty nice.

Finally!!!!

The bass coated strings have finally hit the UK!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ERNIE-BALL-COA...4.c0.m14.l1262

There's only 3 more sets available from that seller!

I've just bought a set, now as soon as they arrive I'll let you know how they perform. Problem is now.... on which bass should I try them, the Stingray5 or the Bongo?

Local GC had sets of coated but only the standard Slinky not the Hybrid.

Grabbed a set and need to decide what they will go on. Very likely the Sabre.

That is strange lowmid, this is the first time someone has come up with this issue, so far a lot of forumites had these strings and not experienced this problem,

I remember clearly that BP mentioned that he sent sets of these strings to endoreser artists for them to test and feedback before actually putting them on sale worldwide, the very fact that they are now on sale means the result of the artists test was thumbs up all around.

Can I ask you out of curiosity, if you have inserted the tip of the string inside the peg before winding it around the peg?

Sounds to me like you probably need to discuss this with Customer Service.

Good luck and please report back, I am interested to hear what caused this.

Cheers

Hmmmm I haven't tried mine yet but 2 to 3 turns, 4" past the post, is my typical setup. I have strung my #1 bass that way for 12+ years and even though not a MM I will slap these on that since there is no doubt at all the tuners of that can cope with 2-3 winds of a round.

I'll report any anomaly and contact CS if they slip. I really hope not. I have only 2 times ever had slippage and those were flats.

I wonder how Ed winds his?

Jim

I always wind them this way: I put the tip of the strings fully inside the peg and then leave about 2-3 turns around the peg when they are at tension, never had any problems!

How many wraps do you do Jack? Or are you one of those guys that never cuts the excess off?
