Flats on Big Al bass?

Lots of posts here about how great flats are on a Bongo. Anyone try flats on a Big Al? Either my Big Al or my Bongo 4HH Rosewood in going to get flats. Would like opinions of those who have tried flats on the Al. thankyouverymuch

Yeah - I guess I will try that - seems no one wants to discuss it here!!!

Time to flip a coin to see which bass gets the flats.

As I love flats on my Bongo and the EQ is very similar to the Big Al (possibly identical), I suggest giving it a try. I recommend EB flats as I like them better than the Chromes I've tried (very nice too, but I've done a review here discussing the differences if you are interested).

The Big Al with its wide array of pickup combinations is likely to have just the right amount of mid bite/thump to make you happy.

I was practicing last night and am settling on the following with EB flats... you may a variation of this works for you too:

Bass boost 40%-50%
Treb boost 30%
Low mid no boost
Hi mid boost 40%

I use a blend of both pickups with emphasis on the neck and use the piezo to add more "air". Thumpy, thick, cuts through a mix and doesn't sound wiry and twangy.

If you're a slapper you may reconsider flats, but I'm not so it is a no brainer for me.

Eggy... Smallequestrian has flats on one of his Big Al's. Must be nice to have two. JOSH
