String Advice

Hello, im fairly new to playing guitar i started about 5 months ago, i felt like i ought to try some new strings, and learn how to replace them. so i go to my local music shop with the intention on buying some slinky power strings, they were all out so i decided to get the beefy strings. i get home i just try the 6th string but for what i wanted to play i found it quite hard, i was in drop d trying to do a bend on the 1st fret for the song Walk by Pantera. i have an Ibanez Grx something, im interested in metal, bands such as pantera, death, evile, children of bodom. I wonder what strings you think would suit me. I also bought a pantera tab book from the shop, and thats just usually 1/2 a step to 1 1/2 step down in tuning. Thanks- Ryan

Hey Bones, welcome aboard!!! Yeah, you got the "real" deal with the strings!!!

As far as the strings of choice; you can go with the Super Slinky 10's or thicker; or even the 9's (that's what I use, and I drop D in CC, and also kick it a 1/2 step too, and they smoke - no problem with gauge.

Go with the ones that your fingers are "comfortable" with, don't get too into the gauge, not with-standing- setup concerns.

If by chance you want to "warm" it up a taste, go with the Classic Rock n Roll strings - dynamite!!!
