I have heard of black guitar strings. I forgot who made them. I believe they were called ironically enough..."Black Diamonds". Couldn't tell you how they sound because I never tried to find or use them though.

I remember back in the day that there were strings with different colored threaded ends (on the ball end), but I haven't heard of anything other than that...

Black strings? Interesting...

Black Diamond strings are black coated. I had a light set for my acoustic...I LOVE THEM...I only wish there were other colors...I would like some white ones, blue ones, and red ones.

DR makes a set of Extra Life coated in Black, Red, Blue, and Silver. They are not supposed to affect the tone. But I've not used them yet.

I have an unusual " wall hanger" bass in the front foyer. The strings on it are tapewounds but I have no idea who the manufacturer was. One string is yellow, one is red and two are blue. It looks quite funky but it is just a " hanger" and not a useable bass.... I should try those strings on one of my useable shortscales though.
