I am a LEFTY bassist. I started playing in 1972. I own 8 basses. I want to buy a 5string MM, but I am torn between a Ray and a Sterling, and have no experience at all with a Bongo.

I currently play a G&L2500L and a hot-rodded Bartolini Schecter5, but I am not satisfied. I am looking for the ultimate "uberbass" and I think the MM might be it. I will most likely have to order mine custom. I wanted a Piezo H Ray, but I found out from Ernie Ball people that they don't make a Lefty Piezo.

I am hearing a lot about Sterlings and Bongos on this forum. I was very naive and thought the Sterling was a cheaper Ray and the Bongo was just plain odd. I now know that's completely wrong...

I am more of a Jazz Bass type player, and I like a thin neck, so I am wondering if I would be happier with a Sterling?

It's very hard being a lefty trying to find basses. I usually go to a guitar store, hold a righty, close my eyes and try to feel the neck on different basses to see what fits me. The ones that feel the best are the MM and the Lakland, the latter which I can't afford... Haven't been able to try the Sterling or the Bongo though, only the Ray, and it is soooooo nice....

If anyone can help me with some expertise on the differences between these fine basses it would be a great help! Thanks! I've seen a couple of pics the Flaming Biff and also of an orange & black and a yellow and black Bongo on here, but don't recall ever seeing pics of custom painted Stingray 4s and 5s.

By that I don't mean just a single colour refinish, but a custom paint job like Dave Allen of Shriekback's bass (the "Truth" bass?) ... Anyone got photos of anything interesting out there...

I'm a newcomer to the Music Man Bass Forum. That said, I do not presently own a Music Man bass but am very interested in them and am trying to educate myself as much as possible on the different models and model options. A local music shop/luthier has a pre-owned Stingray H4 for sale. Although I haven't received a reply yet from the Forum's Serial Number Data Base on this guitar's exact DOB, I believe it is between July and October, 1992. How does a current model Stingray H4 compare with the 1992 version? Would the 1992 version be worth buying or would it be best to put the money into a later model SR H4, either new or used? In general, what would a 1992 Stingray H4 in reasonable shape (very subjective!!!) be worth? but the main problem is its stuck at volume off so i cant play it !!

so 2 questions

1) should i just keep calling my store to order the part,and hope that someone will bother to do it for me.

2) does anyone have a clue how i can turn the volume up so i can play it untill i get a new pot

oh and

3) anychance i can be made the Irish rep for EBMM for a week just so i can light a fire under these guys ;)

So, a guest act was singer/guitarist Orianthi, and her bassist had a pretty 25th SR5, easily seen on camera, thought not heard too well in the mix. (Someday, I want one of those.)

Orianthi is an interesting mix of pop-rock singer/shred guitarist. Didn't get votes from my 17 year old dancer, though. She'd rather see Regina Spektor.

Well, I'm seriously considering about one more versatile bass instrument, but this time for another purpose.
It smiles to me cooperation with one small club jazz-rock-fusion band (trio) and I will need top woody Fretless 5 string bass tone! Just for small club jamming without PA support!
So for crowded and loud weddings and other pop/rock party stuff I have my excellent Sterling 5 HS, and that Bongo should be just for club jazzy jamming!

I'm very interested in Bongo 5 HSp, or maybe just single 5 Hp (if exist) both Fretless, and have a few questions:

What kind of wood is that Pau Ferro?

If order without inlaid fret lines, does it comes with small dots in my view from upper side of fretboard?

Does exist single H Bongo with piezo?

Is that H pickup wired in series or parallel mode?

What is advantage of Neodymium magnets of Bongo instead for example mine ceramic on Sterling?

Seeing as my True Gold lefty Bongo 5 H is due to arrive before Christmas, I thought a rig befitting a monster of a bass was appropriate.

I was very happy with my Shuttle/Eden setup but has always lusted after Mesa gear. Not sure why I have never owned any Mesa bass gear until now but I am completely won over. This rig is so articulate, punchy and tubey at the same time, if defies description! The cab is admittedly freakin large, but its not that heavy and quite easy to move. Both amp and head came with fitted covers and are really first class all the way.

I'm sure my gear exceeds my talent at this point, but such fine basses deserve outstanding amplification! I think I'm set! :D
