This is a fascinating insight into the design process. Thanks for sharing!

I've never really lasted playing anything other than 4 stringers, but something about this just feels right - the same way the Bongo 4 felt right when I saw the mahogany bodied one from the open house.

At least I've got time to save up money!

We'll all find out in due course.
I'm asking to find out if they are planning on making it mass produced or a small limited number "we make it if you order it" type of bass.

Well EB always made it when you ordered it. These will be available soon, maybe Summer NAMM '07, maybe not. I won't say any more assumptions and speculations about the Bongo 6 until the EB crew chimes in on the details cuz I've tasted my foot enough.

I'm not gonna ask the question, cause I don't want to cause any aggravation to BP, but I really really hope there will be a lefty version of this new masterpeice!

If the past points to the future, there will eventually be lefty versions. But, if tradition holds, I wouldn't expect it to be available day and date with the righty.[/peanut gallery]

leftys depend on the demand. If you are lucky a famous artist that get a lot of exposure that wants a lefty helps alot.

Makes sense.

Just out of curiosity, what are the difficulties in creating a lefty?

Since the bodies and necks are, I believe, CNC milled, then that would mean a fresh "backwards"* program, right?

Then there's fabricating a "backwards" electronics package, and a "backwards" neck plate (assuming, that is, that it's going to be a 5 bolt plate).

What else?

*If you're a lefty, substitute "correct" for "backwards" in the above post.

I think they also have to make left handed strings and strap buttons.

Right, of course! I forgot that you have to put the windings on so they spiral the other way and reverse the threads on the screws....

Do leftys have to print mirror images of their sheet music?

Oh, I understand that. I don't know what the minimums would be, of course. I was just curious about what is different about a lefty, that's all (aside from questionable genetics*).

*Like you, I'm a lefty who plays righty.

If you pay enough you can even get one-offs done, right?

Oh, that's not so hard. Get it from Australia. The world turns in the opposite direction down there so the trees grow the other way 'round.

One thing I just realized that nobody's mentioned is the special custom-order backwards pots.
