Anybody know if Myung's been using the Bongo 6 recently? I'm seeing them on the 27th, hoping he's got it there.

As I said on a Myung thread...He has a prototype, we are tweaking it. Also when and if you change companies there is a usually waiting period contractually.....We have zero guarantees that he is going to play the Bongo 6 but are cautiously optomistic.

Ahh... that deadly no compete clause.

I hope he decides to continue with plans to play the Bongo 6. I'm looking forward to hearing a lot of their songs played with his original Music Man sound restored. The one I'm looking forward to most is hearing a recording of "In The Name of God" played on the B6.

Another factor in JM not playing the Bongo 6 publicly right now is the fact that DT haven't played a date since July 1, 2007. Next show isn't until July 24, 2007.

what would the effect be on the body if an 35" neck were possible, to countereffect the neck dive

Accidentally building it one inch shorter?

But to seriously answer the question, possibly the same thing that they are doing with the current proto to decrease it; lighter tuners, different neck wood... I think that's about it.

And I don't think a 35" scale is going to be possible with BP running things (unless, of course, and artist asks for it), but I personally don't like the idea. Granted I'm a small guy, but there are tonal and tuning reasons as well. A guy from F----- (Jay Piccinello, head of the entire bass department there) said in a clinic that expanding the scale to an extra inch just to "tighten" up the lowest string isn't a very good idea as it ruins the intonation of the standard 4 strings. There was a reason Leo came up with the 34" scale. 34 wasn't a random number. Leo, I'm sure, had everything down to a science, and BP can attest to that WAY better than I ever can.

Oh yes, welcome to the boards. Make yourself at home!

What neck dive?

In some quarters, there seems to be this assumption that there WILL be neck dive, and I can't really figure out why that would be. BP and the design team are pretty good at what they do - that much should obvious by now.

And while I'm not a designer nor an engineer, do you think a longer neck would reduce or increase neck dive on any given instrument?

Dont worry folks we are still hard at work. We have a few visitors coming to the factory that have one day off on the west coast swing. They are in a band thats title involves what you do when you sleep....I cant really remember as Im getting old.

The bggest bummer is that I cannot be there as I am commited to the Clapton Crossroads Festival. We may get some input on the bongo 6 you never know.

Like you, Jack, I've never driven a train nor made a dress, but over the years I've gained some experience with gravity (& the more I gain, the heavier I feel). It seems to me that with my belly being the fulcrum or axis or pivot point or whatever you want to call my belly, a longer neck would cause more neck dive.

Could it be July 26th or July 29th? Whenever it is, whoever these guys are, I hope someone take pics and video. Wow...that's just a couple of days from now.

I think the problem you'd have is having a 35" scale

given that the B on a StingRay 5 and Bongo 5 are practically the tightest Bs on any 34" scale basses the only thing you'd gain on a 35" scale 6 is a C that's a little too tight and possibly choked. A 34" scale C is gonna be a sweet less guitar-like sounding C from what I'd expect.

My 6 (not a Bongo 6...yet) is a 35" scale and feels great but the C is definitely a little on the tight side. So I do bleeeb that a 34" scale 6'er is gonna rock.
