Oh my.

Let me see what I have laying around...........

L-R: black 78-79 pre-EB, black sparkle Sterling, Trans Green Stingray 5 (Heinz), black sparkle Stingray, trans orange Stingray. All gone now! Wow.

My first Bongo at work late last year.

My ex-Stingray 5, honeyburst with rosewood.

A Burnt Apple 'Ray I briefly owned and a natural 2 band that I sold this week...sigh.

Heinz the Wonder Bass. Some said it was ugly. They just didn't know better.

The Graperay, a piezo equipped SR5 being modeled by my pal Kassie.

Hey, I still own this one! Late model SR5. Big thump!

Some guy named Sterling playing a Bongo at NAMM. Arrrrr matey.

Before Bongos ruled the world, I had Stingrays and Sterlings and bears, oh my.

My first fretless, an unlined honeyburst Stingray 5. I musta been high.

Carbon Blue Pearl Bongo lounging in the back yard. Is anyone bored yet?

Odd looking beasts, aren't they? But they rock.

The black sparkle 'Ray in the yard. What a good bass that was.

Best of the 4 string Bongos. This one will slap your momma.

White sparkle Sterling. I liked them sparkly basses.

The Vampire Ray! A white fretless model. Another one I shoulda kept.

I think I'm stopping now because I'm getting all weepy and nostalgic. Besides, that's enough for one guy, even though that isn't all of them.

Aussie Mark's Stingrays

Believed to be the first fretless Stingray to leave the factory, most likely a special order. Aug 1976 neck, October 1977 body, rosewood fingerboard. Finish color is white, aged to butterscotch. Original black pickguard replaced by red tort -

1998 fretted Stingray, black with rosewood -

2000 fretted Stingray, trans red with maple -

Here are some pics of my Stingray 5. Serial # E39543. I asked Derek about the color and pickguard combination because it is one that I have never seen before. Here is his response:

"The pickguard combination with Copperhead Bronze Finish was shown at the 2004 winter Namm show. We had a few prototypes with the copper finish and the pickguard you have but decided not to offer the combination. Lucky You. We may have sold those few "Namm" basses to Guitar Center as a special purchase. I have a SR4 sitting in my office right next to me in that same combination as yours.

Thanks

Derek"

I love the color, playability and tone of the SR5. I am very glad I decided to buy this bass.
