Passive Pickups for Bongo 5-String

Hey there, I tried searching to see if anyone else already posted something similar and didn't see anything...apologies if I missed it and I'm repeating.

I'm looking for a replacement pickup for my Bongo 5-string, preferably passive. Does anyone have any suggestions or reccommendations?

Any advice/guidance/nudges in the right direction would be very much appreciated...

The reason you won't find anything is because we do not discuss replacement pickups on the Ernie Ball Forum for many reasons. You may find more info on a pickup manufacturers site or a general bass forum where this sort of discussion should take place.

For one thing...the pickups in your Bongo are actually passive...it's the preamp that's active.

As BP stated most of us love the stock pickups. If you do swap them out, be sure to hang on to the original...

I always say the same thing: it's your bass, do what you want to make it work for you and to hell with what other people say.

But replacing a Bongo pickup with.......with what? There ain't nothing else like it, really.

And 'tis true, we don't get very far with aftermarket pickup discussions.

Nothing to worry about, we were all new here once.

Nobody remembers when "I" was new, but that's understandable.

Okay, I'll be completely honest. I'm a novice guitar player, at best. Vocalist, mostly. I'm looking for these replacement pickups for my boss (hence my vague knowledge of gearspeak)... My boyfriend (though I prefer musical concubine) plays a P bass, and he's also wondering why in heaven someone would pay for a Bongo 5-string, then want to go and change one of the things that makes it what it is... To each their own, I suppose.

Thanks again for the responses/words of welcome.

Tell your boss that you've spoken with Lord Bongo and he said this:

"Oh hell no."

And bring me that boyfriend. We need to talk.

This is directed at no one in particular.

...Here's what I have found with MM bass pickups/basses in general... if your not liking/loving the sound your getting, change your amp/speakers not your pickups.

Which is funny for me...because on the guitar side of things I've replaced all my DiMarzio/MM pickups.
