I would beat the crap out of the LD and then make him pay for the damage or buy a new bass.

That is ghastly, I wonder how many degrees the melting point for that hard plastic might be, and how it could have not affected the structure of the wood, infact I am surprised that your neck stood straight and didn't warp, sorry bud, I would seriously claim damages from the light people.

give music man customer service a call. i'm pretty sure they'll be willing to tell you what brand/color number they're using. then you can take it to a luthier. just have him make a color test on something else before he starts working on the bass.
or you could go for a different color.

ánd i'd have some serious talk with the light dudes...

All the best!

PS: Congratulations on having great shows! Just recently bought the Nemeseas album on iTunes... it's phantastic!
Good idea! maybe they can save this finish after all.
I'm playing with the idea painting the bass a completely different custom colour. If the insurance covers it, everything is possible....
Let me sleep on this :-)

Yeah. I chose this fine specimen out of multiple 5ers. I really don't want to change the body. I like the way it sounds now.

Ill let you guys know how this works out!
Thanks all for your comments. Really appreciate it!

@Oli Cool that you like our album! :-)
Thanks for buying it! Awesome!

Well, I'm in the UK but my household insurance here does cover my basses as long as they don't exceed a certain amount for each individual item - and EBMM basses are well inside that. I don't even need to declare them explicitly. Covering them on your house policy only works if they are mainly at home and not kept somewhere else, like a rehearsal room.

However, you can also take out specific musical instrument insurance to cover gigging and stuff if you are out on the road say and your house cover may not apply - which can happen if you're away from home more than 30 or 60 days depending on the policy. There are a few companies that do this sort of specialist cover in the UK, there's got to be a bunch in the US if you google for it.

There will be an "excess" (this is the UK term, can't remember what the US word for it is) on the insurance so you pay the first $50 or $100 or whatever to discourage trivial damage claims, like car insurance.

Maybe some of the US guys can help out more here. When I rented in the US I took a temporary renters policy out with State Farm who were excellent and I know my bass was covered because I asked them! I also found Liberty Mutual to be an excellent company to deal with and I still do - usual caveats, I have no connections, etc just a happy customer.

Some really good looking guitars on that page :-)
But Marty is in the US and I'm in Holland. I really don't feel comfortable with shipping the body to him to get it painted and back again. (what if I don't like the paint job)

I have a special insurance on all of my basses. They are insured for the value I bought them for. So if it is stolen I get the full value refunded.
But now that it is only damaged it's a bit of a different story.
We will see next week.

Some homeowners' policies don't cover equipment "used in business." For an amateur musician, this term is somewhat vague. If you get paid to gig, that could be considered a business use. It's best to ask your insurance folks.

The US term is a deductible.
