I really enjoyed the round table discussion and jam on Saturday (this one must be from Sunday, cuz with the exception of one lap around the place, I think I was in the EBMM/MB area 99% of the day on Saturday). In one of my favorite parts of the discussion on Saturday, BP asked the guys (Tony, Stan, Juan & Dave) what they do to get out of ruts & keep it fresh. It was cool to hear their thoughts, and that topic kinda typified the whole discussion - very much a player's focus on being a musician and playing bass.

During Q&A, I asked Stan to briefly demo & explain his very unique slap technique. As soon as he said, "well, everything's upside-down, so ...", it hit me, and I felt silly for not realizing it before. Since everything's upside-down, the jobs of the thumb & fingers are reversed - he slaps/thumps the lower strings with his index & middle fingers (kinda like funk fingers without the sticks), and plucks/pops the higher strings with the thumb. A really cool adaptation.

BTW, I'm one of those guys in the category Jack mentioned who realizes at an event like this what a good player BP is.

Prolly my favorite insight from this video clip from Sunday is what BP said about wanting to package the Bongo preamp and pickups in something that was overall equally as unique ... that makes perfect sense, and in my opinion, that goal was executed/achieved beautifully.

Great video!
Funny thing that almost everyone's bass had tags hanging from the headstock. Next thing we know that'll be the new fashion statement...just like the Urban kids with tags hanging from sneakers and baseball caps.
Be careful, though, because once the tags get all ruined from over exposure, you have to toss the bass and get a new one with fresh tags!

I have to admit, when I first saw a Bongo, I hated it. Then I heard a few and the shape gre on me. I never got a chance to play one (haven't seen any in local stores for 2 years), but I'm dying to.

Wow, very impressive. Great player and great sound ... I always love to hear other EBMM players who let those highs sparkle.
