Humming Along

I run my stingray through a hartke lh1000 and 410 cab. It's a single hum SR. The problem is if i'm not touching the strings, the bass has a very loud hum to it. My other basses do this to some degree very lightly, but the SR is super loud. Is this normal? Is there anyway to make it less apparent?

potential grounding problem. I suggest you contact your dealer or customer service.

A hum problem? Perhaps if it learned the words?

No, all kidding aside, I'd go with what Bacon suggested.

+1

Try something simple like changing the battery.
but if its doing it with other basses the odds are that the problem is with your amp or if your using any effects in the chain that is usualy a cause of grounding problems.

Do You have ground lift switch built in Your amp?

If it's there, try to use it!

Dimmer switches? Fluorescent bulbs? It's almost alway environmental if all the instruments do it.

my 93 ray does the same thing,i just learnt to deal with it.i have used it in many different venues with many different amp and it is always the same.i dont think its lights or dimmer switch's but more like a ground issue with the bass.if you fix it let me know,i might try the same, but then i have gotten used to it now !!

Move your rig to another part of the house. Could be an issue with the electrical plug and grounding. Worth a try.

If it stops when you touch the strings, it's a shielding issue, not a grounding issue.

Good point, and if its the same as mine you could try to plug it in while your on the roof standing on one foot with your best ebmm shirt on playing abba's greatest hits and its still gonna buzz.but them I aint no internet doctor, bring it to a repair guy.

Thats why I got rid of my J bass. If I didn't keep my hands on the strings at all times, I got too much humming. Sterling is hum free!.

So, I am surprised to see someone get humming problems as the humbuckers in a Music Man should be hum free. Heck, even my single coil position is hum free due to the phantom coil. Same room in my house with a J bass was a nightmare.

I'm not a fan of these threads, but at the risk of asking a dumb question to the OP, do you have the treble completely boosted?
