Hey Y'all
I noticed the spacing on the nut of my SR5 is off. The space between the D & E strings is noticably wider. It is causing the G string to be to close to the edge.. So I am thinking of having a new nut installed. Any recomendations? |

Nut shot??? (that just doesn't sound good - but a pict would help in seeing if that truely is the problem)

The nut slots are measured from center to center. Because the strings are not the same size it is an optical illusion.

Is it the original nut? The reason I ask is, the nuts are cut on a machine and then finished by hand, and it would be really hard to screw one up.

So anyway what should I use to replace it.

I'd replace it with a new nut....
Seriously, find a music store with a tech that does that stuff. BTW - 2 pix that don't show the nut (esp the back of the bass) don't really help!

I have often wondered if this is a legitimate problem as well. My SR4 nut seems to be cut incorrectly as well. My E string is much closer to the top edge of the neck than the G is to the bottom. Either that or my neck or bridge were not put on inline with the nut. Noentheless, it is playable, but it just seems a little awkward. My Sterling is dead straight.

Someone from EB tech recomended I loosen the neck bolts and pull up (towards me from the playing position). That helped, but that G string has less that 1/8" plastic on the outside. Wish I had my camera going
I will borrow a camera and post a pic.
