I want Knuckleheads to volunteer - neck profile project.

Recently there was a thread on neck profiles.

I have taken a profile gauge to my AL's neck to show its profile, and I can do the same with my EVH. something like this

If volunteers would come forward (maybe PM me) to cover the following guitars, and I'll update this list as people come forward

Albert Lee 2005 - Spudmurphy
Albert Lee Limited Edition 2006 (rosewood neck) Spudmurphy
Albert Lee 1993 - Grumpyolman
Albert Lee Dargie Delight 2007 - Grumpyolman
EVH - Spudmurphy
Axis 2000 - Grumpyolman
Axis Super Sport - OlPlayer
Silhouette - Banjoplayer
Silo 96 - Grumpyolman
Silhouette Dargie Delight 2007 - Grumpyolman
Silhouette Special - volunteer required
Silhouette Bass Guitar - volunteer required
Luke - Slingy
JP6 - volunteer required
JP7 - volunteer required
JP6 BFR - Warg Master
Benji Madden - volunteer required
Steve Morse - volunteer required
Steve Morse y2D - volunteer required
Sub - Slingy
Sub 4 bass -Slingy
SR5 - Grumpyolman
We could keep this thread for reference to answer neck profile questions.

So hows about it?? step forward for the cause.
Spud
EDIT
Here's a "How to" video

Continuity edit!!
at 2:00 I say "measure at the 5th dot" - I then go onto measure at the 7th !!!
But what I am after is measurements at the nut , 5th and 12th

With instruction, I can do a Sub 1 and an ASS (which is the same as an Axis).

OK guys - tell ya what - I'll do a video clip tomorrow (edit - now go see first post) and show ya - then I'll note down who can do what. What you will need is one of these profile guages:-
either a metal one

or a plastic one like this (cost me Ģ1)

a scanner to scan in your results,
some masking tape (optional)
some black card/paper
tape measure/scissors.pencil
a photobucket account or you could e mail the results to me and I'll host them.

Will try and get back to you tomorrow evening with a vid clip.

Ok, Iīve got it.
I donīt own such a instrument, but if I find one in the building center for less money then I take it. Seems to be fun too. + I could measure all my guitars, not only EBMM

What about taking a piece of solder and bending it to the shape of the neck profile, tracing the outline onto paper, then scanning it into your computer. Of course a profile gauge would be more accurate.

That sounds great Spud. I'll do it just to get that gauge! Will go to the hardware store tomorrow and check things out.

Here's my Luke. I forgot the measurements woops, will edit those in. Oh and my contour tool is pretty firm it could scratch the neck when pressing hard, so I wrapped a piece of receipt paper around it to protect it.

Donīt have the tool so far. Maybe today or monday ?!?!

Also, if I recall correctly, Sterling said at the SLO Open House 2005 that they get the signature artists in the factory every once in a while to re-measure their respective instruments to account for neck wear from playing, etc. This ensures they could pick up any new instrument from a retailer and have it feel the same as their own.

Correct me if I'm wrong!

Hey Slingy - thanks for the PMLooks like you're doing fine without me.

Thanks for volunteering to do the Sub and Sub 4 bass too.

I think this could be like a post pics of your guitar thread - only this time it's post pics of yer neck countour!!

I have borrowed a digi cam from my mother in law and have to charge it's battery.

Will have an instructional vid clip out Sunday evening GMT. (now embedded in first post)

Also if you are worried about a metal profile guage marking your neck my suggestion is to put some masking tape on it to protect it.
