The video is nice especially for me because there are images from the Paris show ... and I was there
Couldn't agree with you more. He's almost like a ninja of sorts

I met JM (and JP) outside their Southampton gig. JM didn't say one thing:

"Hi, er...I'm a massive fan."
*JM smiles and nods*
"Is it alright if we get a picture?"
*JM nods*
*We stand and get picture*
"Thanks so much."
*JM smiles and shakes our hand*

I disagree about the bass not being present in the mix.

I think it sits in the mix perfectly. Not so loud all you get is bass and not so quiet all you get is guitar. The bass tone is much different on this album than previous ones. It's got much more resonance and depth to it, not so much pop. It blends so well with the rest of the music you can't really tell it's there, but take it away and the whole album would lose it's power.

that's the thing that's so cool about JM. He reminds me of jazz legend, Ed Bickert, exact same thing.
I attended a jazz master class with Bickert and Don Thompson. Bickert said nothing except some nods and smiles.

The video is awesome, the song is awesome.

Nice simple video, just shows the band doing what they do best and them just having a great time. Video clips with big special effects are great and all, but sometimes l just love watching a video clip of bands just goofing.

This and Hollow Years are their two best videos. This one seems very... mature. I love the slow-mo plus the black/white shots.

It shows they status as reference... with that I mean, all prog bands are measured by Dream Theater. Same as Metal = Metallica.

But the best solo on that album from JP has got to be "The Best Of Times"! I've not heard him play like that in a LONG time...
+1!
The solo on The Best of Times is really great - very melodic, perfectly played and a killer sound!

Damn, now I have GAS for a JP.

I can definitely hear the bass in BC&SL. Like BKRUMME said, if it wasn't there you'd notice. When played on a quality speaker setup, the bass is felt more than heard, which fits the music very well.

Thanks Ralf. Nice to have some support now and then.

As far as the video, I think it's great. The song is great. Dream Theater is great. it's all GREAT!

Of course you can hear the bass ... but personally I like the bass sound (especially when the player is so good) thus I prefer to hear it a bit more in the mix.
On the extra CD with the cover songs, the Maiden cover (To Tame a Land) is nice but really, the bass has to be more present. OK, I admit : I am an old Maiden fan so Steve Harris playing had a huge influence on me.
So JM : bring the noise

I understand what you mean. It would be nice if the bass just popped a bit more. I think it's more a tonal issue than a mixing issue...and not really an issue if Dream Theater and JM are cool with how it sounds.

JM is definitely an amazing bassist and deserves to be heard...but we have to consider what Dream Theater is trying to accomplish collectively as well. If that's where they decided to put him in the mix and they accomplished the tone and sound they were looking for, then mission accomplished.

JM's live sound is different from the recording, but are JP's, MP's, JR's and JL's. There are all sorts of tonal nuances you hear live that you don't hear in a recording...that's what's so great about live music.

Nevertheless, the video is cool. It really conveys a message about how they're feeling in their careers. It's a kind of montage of their current tours and what it's like on the road for them. I especially like the shot of MP getting ready to go on stage with their tour manager. He starts smiling and has the most genuine look of happiness on his face. It's inspiring, really. Then there's the shot of JP in the middle of a solo where he makes a "metal face." They look like they're having a load of fun.

I think you are *officially* the first person I've heard that thought the song was weak.
