roasted necks

im interested in roasted necks. can someone tell us (...me) of what it does to the guitar tonally?

also any explanations of the process?

my guess it is a subtle tinting of the neck. Would not effect the tone unless you are a member of the gear page and have exceptional hearing.

Looks like it gives the neck a very unique aesthetic quality. I would be interested to see if it makes the neck feel any smoother.

I would think there would be a laquer but I would also think cooking a lacquered neck would cause the wood to expand and the laquer to crack?
