I've solved the ABG physics problems by adding this little guy:

With the mic/transducer setup, I get a true sound, and with the battery powered Phil Jones Briefcase, I can play anywhere with anyone and still be heard.

But, yeah, most of them suck, and none of them can really be used too well acoustically. But, there are ways to do it right if you want to do it.

How much did you pay for that "PJB briefcase" amp ??

what, in your guys opinion, is the best brand of acoustic bass?

I have a Martin B-1 which is the best I've tried. It will hold its own in an acoustic jam, but don't expect double-bass sound - it just doesn't get that deep. If you get the version with electronics or do what I do (use a Seymour Duncan Woody), you can get a great deep amplified sound. But you can probably do that with an EBMM bass w/Piezo.

An alternative for jamming with acoustics is to get one of those rechargeable low-wattage amps.
